A model railroader since the age of 8 (maybe earlier), Riley is currently a lecturer in Architecture and Design at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the Layout Design Special Interest Group, the Operations Special Interest Group, the Erie Lackawanna Historical Society (ELHS) and the Erie Lackawanna Historical and Technical Society (ELHTS). He is an Associate Editor of the Layout Design Journal, and an active member in the modeling community in Austin.
